Photograph and text, taken from page 2 of the Cunningham family scrapbook "Hilda."
Hilda Hugon's heritage begins in a small village in Northern Italy. Her mother was born in the village Torre Pellice near Turin and migrated to the United States. Her father's family was originally from France from where they fled to Italy to avoid religious persecution. Her father, David Hugon, was born in Montevideo, Uruguay. Eventually, both families settled in a North Texas farming community near Gainesville, Texas, where Hilda was born on December 8, 1898.
